If you saw the domain and laughed, kudos. If you just got confused… you're probably under 27 or so. Back in 1986, a band called Bon Jovi had a big hit song called "you give love a bad name."

The album, Slippery When Wet, was my first cassette tape. And also my first act of piracy against the RIAA, I suppose… my buddy had gotten the tape and we dubbed a copy of it. IIRC my second tape was The Bangles (walk like an egyptian!), and I dubbed a copy of it for him.. I think I got the better end of the copying deal, there. I remember us riding our bikes around the neighborhood and through the woods, a walkman and tinny portable speakers taped between the handlebars, blasting Bon Jovi and Bruce Springsteen and others. We were beyond cool. :)

The domain name was sort of a joke. A few years ago, Dotster was giving away free 1 year .name registrations. My coworkers and I were joking around with silly .name URLs to register, and suddenly it struck me… you give love a bad dot name. Registered it a minute later, and then didn't touch it for a few years, except to show it to people for occasional laughs.

Why now? Well, I decided to try blogging again, but this time with no particular focus in mind. My last few blogs have been special purpose blogs, and those don't work well without constant updating. Here… well, I guess I need a place to think, to reflect, to do alot of the stuff that I haven't done in the years since I changed from the life of a hotel desk clerk to an overworked code monkey. To write something that isn't email, or IM, or even poetry. And this is the one domain I own that's not associated with anything else I've done. And in my darker moments of self-reflection, I suppose I probably have given love a pretty bad name a few times.
